Re: Ecclesiastes 1.10 + newbie questions
toki! Thank you both for your feedback on this! I use both the English Douay-Rheims translation and the Latin Vulgate when translating. Using 'ante la' is actually going against both, as they have 'for' and 'enim' (for, namely) respectively. I thought it would be clear to say 'on the contrary' to 'n...

Ecclesiastes 1.10 + newbie questions
toki! I'm trying to translate some Bible verses in order to improve my command of tp. I have come up with a translation for Ecclesiastes 1.10 that feels alright to me, but I have some questions about it. English: Nothing under the sun is new, neither is any man able to say: Behold this is new: for i...

Re: Seasons
Hey, does this work?
kama lete la,
waso pimeja li lon
palisa moli
Using one of janTepanNetaPelins suggestions for autumn... I'm not too confident about what works and not when it comes to la-clauses. This is turning the content around a bit, I know, but I'm not averse to that if the result is good.

Re: Seasons
Sure, if I can find a decent 5-syllable line for the rest of it, I'll make the whole thing 5-7-5 (even though the original has an irregular 9-syllable mid line).

Re: Seasons
pona! Yes, I think I've come to the conclusion that suno anpa pi tenpo jelo Is taking it a bit to far, and possibly blurring the image. 'Low sun of the yellow time' kind of sounds like a line out of an ancient chinese poem. Which is not completely missing the mark here, but it can be done better. I ...

Re: Three haiku by Taneda Santoka
Have you posted your version of the frog poem anywhere? I'd be very interested to see how that can be done. It was the first haiku I tried to translate, but being a complete beginner, I got stuck on both 'old', 'pond', 'frog' (just akesi maybe?) and 'jump (in)'... :P Kalama telo is clear enough thou...

Re: Three haiku by Taneda Santoka
Ok, thanks! It's nothing important, I just asked what is the sound of water, because I've seen several translations that use onomatopoetic words like 'splash' etc. for the last line. I think that narrows the haiku down a bit, because mizu no oto / the sound of water / kalama telo doesn't necessarily...
