Disyllabic Names

Post by jan_Pusa »

jan Sonja
jan Pije
jan Wiko
jan Ape
jan Sewe
jan Niko
jan Kipo
jan Pusa
jan Ante
jan Tani
jan Ose
jan Ote
jan Mika
jan Mato
jan Josan

These are names of actual TPers, right? What else is common to them? They're disyllables!
Are there any other names we can add to the list?

Well, two syllables are the first to be truly distinctive for a reasonable sized group and still short enough to be memorable. I expect, as tpers get more numerous, we will see more longer ones, maybe not many Sowelilili for a while (she could be a Anjo, after all) , be several trisyllabics. Also, this may represent a fallout from common names in our native languages, both personal and family, which tend in most Eurpean languages to run between one and three syllables (ignoring a lot of prepositional stuff like "de" and "von" ). Maybe we should think about rules some time.

Hell, I couldn't figure out mine if I didn't know it. But I do admit to being curious, since I can't think of a name that gives that (Bush? nah!).

Not sure whether 'tan' is a 'tawa' class verb but it seems to be ('sina tan ma seme' in the lessons)

taso nimi ni li pali mute ike tawa jan ante. 'pali mute e ike' or 'pali e ike mute'

jan ale li wile toki e ni: jan John. nimi ni li lili ike li kalama ike tawa kute mi. mi wile jo [a] E nimi pi kalama lili tu.

pona a, mi ken kin jo e ni kepeken toki pona!

Yes, there are no consonant clusters in tp (except nX across syllable breaks), so you have three choices (aside from taking a totally new tp name): Pisiku (or with s and some other vowel -- which might be better, since si tends to get eshy. Pisuku would fit tp's vowel harmony tendency nicely), Piku (deciding the s doesn't count as much as the k) or Pisu (opposite evaluation).

kama pona tawa toki pona.
