QFT. Chinese needs complex characters. Toki Pona is minimalist and simple- stealing kanji would be a step backwards IMHO.janKipo wrote:Simplified forms please. There are already a number of logogram suggestions a float.
Re: A range of possibilities
Some very ancient ( read simple) characters might be good, but the basic point you make seems right.

I know this is an old post but is there a word list available for hó ni anywhere?rdmiller3 wrote:Actually, there is... but it was just something I was playing with. I called it "hó ni" (toki pona). I haven't messed with it in months though.
Syllables were consonant-vowel, using eight consonants and five vowels with three tones. I'd have to add something else to handle the new words though, since 8*5*3=120.
I suppose I could allow for final -m/-n like in real Toki Pona, or for consonant clusters or for a fourth tone.
Anyway, I came up with it just to see what playing with an artificial tonal language might be like.

notice I used both 話 and 語 for 'toki'. The first is speak, the second is language.
Using only hiragana would look funny to me honestly.
what about something like devanagari if we were going to use an entirely syllabic script?
टोकी पाना ली पाना तव मि.
toki pona li pona tawa mi.
The only issue there might be with it is that devanagari is an abugida which means there is an inherent 'a' attached to each consonant unless another vowel is written. प is 'pa', not 'p'. 'pe' 'pi' 'po' & 'pu' would be पे पी पो & पु. If you wanted to include it, 'pa' would look like 'पा', but that would technically be 'paa'.
य क ल म न प स ट व
आ ए ई ओ ऊ
using the phonetic devanagari keyboard they would be:
y k l m n p s T w
a e I o U
There is इ for i (पि, pa) & उ for u (पु, pu), but the former is more of an 'i' (it) sound than 'i:' (eat) & the latter is 'ʊ' (look) not 'u:' (luke)
in syllables that would be
य ये यो यू
ja je jo ju
क के की को कू
ka ke ki ko ku
ल ले ली लो लू
la le li lo lu
म मे मी मो मू
ma me mi mo mu
न ने नी नो नू
na ne ni no nu
प पे पी पो पू
pa pe pi po pu
स से सी सो सू
sa se si so su
ट टे टो टू
ta te to tu
अ ए ई ओ ऊ
a e i o u
The final 'n' is a diacritic that goes over the letter before it, ं.
pana would be पन, pan would be पं(pa+n)
