most recent dictionary?

Post by JanKanle »

Does anyone have a list of all toki pona words, both official and unofficial? I'm getting really confused as to what words exist and which ones don't.

tpnimi.blogspot.com has all that have ever been used or proposed. It is less good on which ones are still really in use and in which senses they are being used. In general, just about anything there that is not starred is used at least sometimes by someone in roughly the sense listed. A few of the starred ones have been used occasionally when they were just too handy not to (try saying "stairs" or "square" in tp, and I have a personal fondness for both "block"s). And there are always a few oddities floating around in particular topic line, mainly the issue of large numbers (filling out the ten digits in various ways) and spelling. The list of unofficial words, names of person, places, and ideologies (including religions), has also grown more or less uncontrolled, with several variants of some places (Nujo, Nujoka, Joka sin, etc.) and on-the-fly creations for new ones that turn up, usually not very intelligible. The list of these has gotten way out of date and isn't in a readily accessible spot anyhow. The idiom lists are even more out of date and inaccessible. Sorry 'bout that.

I have a list in my lesson. I distinguish exact between different word types, like adjectives, adverbs, noun, ...

I have a dictionary file also. This dictionary is generated by the latex files of the lessons. You can use this text file with the software ding (https://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~fri/ding/). With ding you can search
easily for English and Toki Pona words, phrases or sentences. It is plain text and you can use it with other tools (grep for example) also.

Lope's dictionary is a little hard to work with since it lists words and phrases, official words and unofficial, all in one alphabetic list, without any formatting (except unexplained, random indentations). But it is very thorough and worth copying and editing for your own purposes. There are also the spread sheets and, for out of date words, the pages on tpnimi.blogspot.com.
