Re: toki! 'Sup!
Sorry, I do have slight problems with letters and words; like, in English I often confuse 'p', 'b' and 'd' and transpose letters. But, clearly, I meant "toki pona" hahaha (but then again, I've read jan Pije's lessons, and he said the sounds p/b are like interchangeable, so if I were to write "bona" instead of "pona" you'd still understand me! a a ajan Ote wrote:jan Alan o toki!

Yes, you can pronounce letter "p" as sound, but standard of writting is "p". Letter "b" doesn't exist in tp alphabet.

"taso lipu sewi Pipija LI toki e ni:"
"tu tu wan jan" means "2+2+1=5 (five!) humanely" (numeral+modifier)
jan sewi Jawe li jan tu wan.
"mama wije" -> mije
But why "mije"? Is God male? Does God have a gender? While in words of Bible it's "he", "Father", in theology it's not so obvious. In European languages the grammar forces us to use a grammar gender, "he" or "she", but not in toki pona. "mama sewi" should be all right, I suppose. Am I wrong?
"kon jan sewi" -> if "mama" and "jan lili" without "sewi", then the 3rd person also without it.

Yes, it doesn't say "God gave names to darkness and light. Darkness and light were the first day". He named the darkness and the light. The next sentence says that "The evening and the morning came. The first day". This the part ommitted in jan Oli's translation. His text says something slightly different: there was a darkness and light - named by God. The two were the first day (static colours were the time unit?). While the Bible tells about light change: evening, morning - that makes the day.jan Inli wrote:lipu sewi Pipija li toki e ni: "and there was evening, and there was morning - the first day".

I only wrote 'mama wije' to show I meant "Father" not "Mother", as in Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. But yeh, I suppose in toki pona, 'mama sewi' would be fine."mama wije" -> mije

Well, one can say "Father, Son, Spirit"; but it's normal for theologians to refer to the "holy spirit", which I would write as "kon sewi" or "kon pi jan sewi"."kon jan sewi" -> if "mama" and "jan lili" without "sewi", then the 3rd person also without it.

Re: toki! 'Sup!
Just a side point that goes back to the earliest translations. The god of Gen 1 is not Jahweh (or whatever) but Elohim (which is strictly plural, hence all the first person plurals that follow. Notice there is no LORD here, the usual cover for Jahweh, Adonai). The rest is more theology than I want to get into at the moment, since we are mainly translating an English translation here (or several such) and we can stick to that. I would hope that the tp trat will end up being more inclusive or not sex specific (God doesn't have a penis, after all -- or anything else, come to that), though just how to do the Trinity is a problem -- not one we need deal with in the OT however (or the NT, for that matter, really).
