Testing some things...

Postby natan » Thu Jun 30, 2016 5:47 am

toki!

Are any/all/none of these correct for His name is Matu
1. nimi ona li Matu.
2. nimi pi ona e Matu.
3. ona li nimi e Matu.
4. ona jan Matu.
5. ona li jan Matu.

How are the following:
sina moku e moku mute la sina suli! (If you eat too much food, you get fat!)
mama meli li pali moku e mi (Mum makes food for me.)
jan wan li jo e soweli mute (One person carried many animals.)

I am wondering how people would translate this sentence:
mi tawa esun e telo.

Any feedback appreciated.

1, accepted by pu, but with problems noted earlier (it violates sense and pu's rules)
2. not a sentence (no 'li', 'e' in a noun phrase, only one word after 'pi')
3. says "He named Matu something"
4. needs 'li' after 'ona'. otherwise on course.
5. Right.

1. Okay, though it only says "much food", not "too much food" and that you are fat, not that you become fat. Minor and context covered.
2. says "Mother tried to eat me" want 'mama meli li pali e moku tawa mi'
3. Right (context to get "carry" rather than merely "possess).

I took the water to the market. (I can imagine some other possibilities, like "I am going to barter water", but they involve dubious changes -- 'tawa' as a modal, in this case.)

So if not "moku mute", what then?

What about "...awen moku..." as "..."continue to eat..."?

And instead of "...sina suli", maybe "...sina kama suli" as "you become fat"?

'moku namako' as a first shot, something complex like 'moku pi mute pi tawa pona' as a second guess. It just hasn't been dealt with before.
'awen moku' means "continue to eat/ keep on eating", so Yes.
ditto for 'sina kama suli' "You become fat'
