toki pona ancient history- Who was Lament?

Post by janMato »

Lament, aka, Nikita Ayzikovsky appears to be the 2nd person to learn toki pona and helped jan Sonja talk it into existence. Other than that, I don't know much. Do any of you?

I found this public link:

Yup, that and other clues say he's a native Russian speaker, lives now in Canada.

This means the first two toki pona users knew English, French, Russia as mother tongues and Esperanto as 2nd, so the original intent of the ancient word list probably had these 4 languages (subconsciously) in mind.

And for anyone else following the story, the correct order is...

jan Sonja - 1st toki pona speaker.
jan Sonja's roommate - 2nd toki pona speaker.
Nikita- 3rd toki pona speaker.
jan Pije - 4th toki pona speaker

After that the deluge. Or puddle. It's still a small language.

romantic interest, so it's in the realm of gossip. Still it would be fascinating to know how the original creative process went once the language had to deal with it's first "student"/"co-creator". Now persons 5- 100, that would be a fascinating social graph. Would it be a network with a single hub (jan Sonja, i.e. everyone who used the language directly knew her via gameboard geek, livejournal, esperanto events, or would there be another hub in there?)

Re Mateo?--- that doesn't sound right. I thought it was a girlfriend. My esperanto name is Mateo Martino-- maybe that was the confusion, or maybe Mateo is just a common name. I certainly wasn't the 2nd speaker, I'd remember that.

I don't know enough about IRC-- what moderation options are there? I always thought it was completely uncontrolled, so that penis pill peddlers, nazis and 12 year old trolls had equal speech rights.

This FAQ implies there is a way to get some control

Anyhow, I'll send a message to jan Sonja on FB.
