ma pi toki pona has gotten rather quiet for a few months. I'd say that a good percentage of the chatter is people learning the language and contrive translation exercises as a side effect of learning the language. After that though, it gets harder to justify spending time translating more.
Is there any sort of information that people would prefer to get via reading toki pona? I suppose people might prefer to get their directions to the train station in Esperanto (when abroad) or they might prefer to get their legal contracts written in Lojban.
If there was a variety of information that people preferred to hear about in toki pona, then that would help generate content to keep the discussion going.
Best way to contrive community activity?
Re: Best way to contrive community activity?
on IRC new people show up time to time but there is not much talk in toki pona.
on Second Life, we are trying to make some advertissment and get people but is not easy. But we use the language.
on tokilili, all seems calm.
on this forum, people continues to write in english as usually…

Re: Best way to contrive community activity?
I could imagine taking a vow to speak only Esperanto and not feeling pain (other than I'd have to actually learn Esperanto)

life is moli ala. or maybe tenpo pi moli ala. The other alternatives, like lon, wawa either have problems or work well only in certain scenarios.

tp seems to suit well everyday life talking, simple things.janMato wrote:Is there any sort of information that people would prefer to get via reading toki pona?
I don't know if it is a side effect of toki pona and/or internet ( i think internet ) but long texts tends to not be readen, short texts are more efficient. Hence the success of twitter.janMato wrote: And when I do post a longer toki pona text, I often get no response,

Edit: That being said, though, my favourite thing about toki pona is trying to understand what others are saying. The language has been compared to charades, and I think that's very apt. Another good game comparison that could be made is Pictionary: one presents a symbol (or in tp a string of words) that is clear in their own mind as to the meaning, and others have to interpret what it represents.
