Comments / corrections please. What I was trying to say below.
Thanks.

I am traveling to Oklahoma City.
I am going because of my work.
I leave from Boston.
The sky is blue.
There is a small number of people on the airplane.
I can move my legs.
I have two bags under my seat.
I have to listen to the safety talk.
The stewardess is pretty.
At the end of today, a woman will cut my hair.
My hair is very long.
When the airplane leaves the ground, my seat moves up and down.
Tonight I want to get these things: food, a notebook, candy and kleenex.
Televisions are on the plane.
A funny movie is on the television.
I look at the magazine from the airline.
Light comes through the window.
The sunlight warms me up.
Now I am in Atlanta.
My airplane is broken.
The pilot gets another airplane.
But this airplane goes to Detroit.
Snow is falling in Detroit.
The men wash the plane using hot water because of this: to remove the ice from the plane.
I arrive in Oklahoma at night.
The store is closed.
Now I am not able to buy my things from the store.

Proper modifiers can't follow a prep and depending on your stand on the spread of proper modifiers, should mostly follow ma, jan, kulupu, ilo, sometimes soweli etc, and rarely few others.

D'oh! (ignore the following. I see you meant "store" not week. I thought the week ended, because I didn't know what finishing/ending a store meant.

tenpo esun li pini.

There are actually languages that do this both ways-- shorten to just the modifier or shorten to just the head noun.
red chicken --> I saw the chicken
red chicken --> I saw the red (one). (English really doesn't like to shorten to the bare modifier)

tenpo esun --> tenpo (okay if you've mentioned tenpo esun earlier)
tenpo esun --> esun (not really... I mean almost everything can convert to a noun and it would mean something like "marketing" or "commerciality" o, or the quality of -X) I've seen other people shorten to the modifier, but it just doesn't

I understand that 'tenpo esun' can mean week (http://en.tokipona.org/wiki/esun). So 'tenpo esun li pini' would mean 'the week has ended'.
I was trying to say 'the store is closed'. Is 'esun li pini' ok for this meaning?

I was trying to come up with a phrase for safety instructions, for when the stewardess gives her standard speech.
nasin pi pini pakala - the way of stopping injury ?
nasin pi pakala ala - the way of no injury ?

Thanks

Imho, open ala works better for closed (as in a closed store)

Safety...?

jan pali pi tomo tawa waso li pana sona e ni: mi mute li ken kepeken sona ni tawa ni: mi mute li moli ala.

I can't think of anything else that isn't an opaque compound-- not that opaque compounds are bad, tp already has some.

'esun li pini' is fine for "The store is closed" but it looks odd to us who know etymology.
'pana e sona ni [no colon]' 'kepeken e sona ni' 'pakala ala' works too.

Wouldn't Detroit reduce to 'ma tomo Teto' or 'Tero'?

Or even 'Tetuwa' but I have to admit that it is easier to decode his version.

Tetrot <-- internal consonant cluster is illegal. final t is illegal.

I know the official rules say to drop final consonants, but I'd rather add a vowel-- these modifiers get hard enough to recognize as it is.

jan Mato o! mi pilin sama sina. taso sina wile kepeken e toki pona la sina wile weka e nimi pini pi nimi ante.
I've looked at many syllabic writing systems (my favorite book is Writing Systems of the World), and I find the systems with epenthesis more aesthetic. But in those cases the question arises: what vowel do you use for this purpose?
