Looks like we may be getting another new word: apeja - to single out, expose, disgrace, dishonor

http://en.tokipona.org/wiki/Talk:apeja

I'm going to have to start making some new flash cards again.
sin la mi wile sitelen e lipu tawa. a, a, a.

Interesting, another negative word.

jan utala li tawa tan utala li weka jan pona ona. jan li apeja e kulupu ona.
vs
jan utala li tawa tan utala li weka jan pona ona. jan li pali ike sama ni.

The reverse doesn't automatically seem like "to honor"
mi apeja ala e mama mute mi. I didn't dishonor my parents. (not I honor my parents)

Perhaps the problem here is that "disgrace" is a negative term generating from the attitude of others, and as such does not fit the self-generating moral compass more typical of TP? Which makes TP sound a bit Nietzschean, oddly enough. How have the concepts of "honor" and "disgrace" been used in previous TP translations? Is there a 'Ten Commandments' somewhere? A pre-apeja translation of 'o apeja ala e mama mije sina en mama meli sina''?

jan Pije translated the 10 commandments in 2000-2003, and probably posted it on geocities. I checked the various archives and bingo! I found it:
mi taso li jan sewi sina. Only I am your god.
o pali ala e ijo sewi lili. o sewi ala e ona. Don't make little religious objects. Don't worship them.
o kepeken sewi e nimi mi. Use religiously my name.
tenpo suno sewi li suli. The holy day is important.
mama sina li lawa e sina. Your parents are in control of you.
o moli ala. Don't kill.
o unpa ike ala. Have sex not evilly.
o kama ala jo ike e ijo. Don't come to have things evilly.
o toki e lon. Tell the truth.
o wile ala e ijo pi jan ante. Don't want other people's things.
ni li tan jan Pije.

He used the word honor in the sense of "to obey"

toki pi jan lawa! (mi mute li pini kute e toki pi jan sewi la jan lawa pi nasin sewi mi li toki)
I would quibble with the semantics of that commandment - surely you don't have to obey your parents if they're Ba'al worshippers!

My opposition to 'apeja' is based on the slippery nature of 'honor' and 'dishonor' which IMO would be translated according to context in TP.
