jan Sonja got a job. This is good and bad news. The language inventor won't starve, but the book is likely to get less time spent on it. I subscribe to jan Sonja's blog and recent changes on the wiki to get and idea of how much toki pona stuff she's working on.

jan Sonja li jo e pali sin. sin ni li pona li ike. mama pi toki pona li moli ala tan moku ala. taso lipu mute li kama jo lili e pali pi jan Sonja. mi lukin e sitelen pi jan Sonja kepeken ilo RSS tawa ni: mi wile sona ni: jan Sonja li pali mute anu lili.

Does the website have enough material to easily learn the language or is the lack of a book going to prevent me from learning the language easily?

I have links to toki pona lessons in other languages, on my website (see below).

I'm not that familiar with toki pona ancient history, but I believe that booklet in the picture formed the basis of jan Pije's current lessons. I don't think that booklet was formally published; I may be wrong. This is a link to a slightly newer 2005 version of that booklet: http://aiki.pbwiki.com/f/toki-pona-lessons.pdf
However, the most up to date lessons are at jan Pije's site listed above. Also the wiki at this site, contains jan Sonja's latest thoughts on toki pona vocabulary.

2000 jan Sonja writes toki pona. The archaic words become archaic about this time.
Elizar's lessons published in Spanish (this was very early because there are some archaic words.
2002 toki pona as a language is mostly worked out and in use on the mailing list and on livejournal, toki pona from 2002 looks much like 2010, except 2010 texts are longer and better written. The syntax and vocab is much the same though.
2003 last date that jan Sonja's lessons were online
Some time after, jan Pije published new better lessons
rowa.gisa.de publishes a latex formatted version of the lessons, which printed is about 190 pages. Includes lessons, dictionary and some sample texts, mostly taken from yahoo mailing list
The classic dictionary is published on tokipona.org about this time
~2009 The incomplete wiki and dictionary are published on tokipona.org, replacing the classic word list.
2010 I put together a toki pona corpus and re-publish some of it. something like 50,000 words all in toki pona. As soon as I get a grant from NIS, I'll copy edit it and format it for leisure reading on the kindle.

The book was supposed to see the light during the first quarter of 2010...
We started the second half now... nothing new ? :|
