"Truth"
Re: "Truth"
lon. Yes we do and that is it.
Re: "Truth"
A good exercise with these sort of questions is to check for how many definitions and senses there are for the word, I'm using dictionary.com here, and see if you can write some complete sentences.Takoinche wrote:Don't you guys think we NEED a word for "truth"?
1. the true or actual state of a matter: He tried to find out the truth.
jan li wile kama jo e ni: ijo li lon anu lon ala?
2. conformity with fact or reality; verity: the truth of a statement.
ma ale li supa. ni li lon ala. ma ale li sike. ni li lon.
3. a verified or indisputable fact, proposition, principle, or the like: mathematical truths.
jan nanpa li pali e pali pi lon nanpa. The mathematician wrote a proof.
4. the state or character of being true.
sitelen lape li kama lon. My dreams came true.
5. actuality or actual existence.
Hmm, I don't have a good example sentence for this one.
If I was feeling more creative, I probably could come up with phrases that don't use lon.

ma li ali lon. Die Welt ist alles was die Fall ist. the World is everything that is the case. The World is the totality of facts.

If you speak a philosophical language, you'll have to think about what you speak! What is truth? That is how nice is TP.

Re: "Truth"
What is truth?
Maybe it' really IS just 'lon'
Because truth is what is, and lies are what is not, and that's 'lon ala'.
Because lies don't exist. You can say them (toki pi ijo li lon ala) but they're what's not actually THERE. It's there in thought (pilin pi ijo li lon ala) but not in physicality (lon ala).
But what if thought counts?
Then a lie is a bad thought (pilin ike) depending on the intent of the person who told it. But it is still a complex thought even if it's born of good intent as it's meaning has been twisted.
Sometimes the truth hurts.
Then the thought exists, but makes you feel bad (pilin lon li ike tawa mi).
But you know what? I'll tell you a secret.
ike li ike tawa sina.
taso tenpo ali la ike li lon ala.

Re: "Truth"
'toki ijo', 'pilin ijo', no 'pi' because not two words following.
Oh, don't get this started down a philosophical path! (I refrain)

Re: "Truth"
Yeah sorry, guess it might be a bit of a bad way to say things like 'thoughts of what doesn't exist' and so on. But yeah, that's the gist of it.
