Does Toki Pona really need a word for the moon ? It's nothing more than a big kewi hung up in the sky.
- it's a quite useless thing in a pona world
- we could find other simple way to name it
Any thoughts on this ? Have you ever thought of other useless nimi pi toki pona ? (nimi ike pi toki pona?)
"mun" : useless ?

In the talk section of the wiki, jan Sonja wrote a good deal of notes on a toki pona style astronomy, where stars were mun lili, i.e. a mun is actually a shiny dot or circle in the sky.
I'm not sure what to think of toki pona astronomy-- on one hand, it implies a kind of naive understanding of how the world works, on the other hand, there are coined phrases for binary stars and other things that only a modern, advanced society could know about. There is a long discussion somewhere on the forum about the phrase for year and if it should be heliocentric or geocentric or some phrase that doesn't necessarily imply either understanding of the world.
And most words in toki pona probably could be defined with one or two other toki pona, but the list of meanings and the way they get used doesn't match up exactly, so we wouldn't be able to remove a word without making something obsolete. ilo-kepeken could have been done with a single word-- but now that we have two words, then we have a clearer distinction between usage (kepeken as noun) and tool (ilo as noun).
