Re: Sandhi rules for toki pona?
Well, Daniel's again either a reading voice or an exemplary one, so not great data, but it still seems (given sound quality and all) to be pretty much like mine. I had more trouble with the Russian stuff, which also seems to be read off (singing is a whole nother ball of wax).

Re: Sandhi rules for toki pona?
Given how little tp is spoken, it is hard to say what actually happens in these cases, but since most of the "speakers" are Anglophone, I suppose most of the solutions tend to be English one, not that that narrows the field a lot. It is worth noting, to start with, that the second element ...

Re: The Great Unanswered Toki Pona Questions
"pakala! ona li kama sin" Prep phrases. I don't know the problem listed here, except as maybe a special case. My problems are 1)can prep phrases modify nouns and 2) if they do, do they need 'pi'? To 1) the response is that 'pi' itself (or the modification relation generally) already covers...

Re: The Great Unanswered Toki Pona Questions
Thanks for the list. A mixed bag, many unanswered p-- or answered badly -- some even great, all good to look at. S0, (says he as inevitably as death in Texas) Don't knock worry about armadillos, they may not be great questions but the are real -- and usually solvable. And sometimes they bring good t...

I'm better a Sylvester, but something seems called for -- maybe air quotes? How do we do it in natural languages?

Re: Dilbert en tenpo suno pi kama sin pi jan Kolisu
I haven't had much luck finding things in the archives since they shifted to the categorical mode, so I can't pull up references right away. I'll root around for them (and they may be in other files, since I chatted with Sonja on some other matters along with tp on another line). In any case, at som...

Re: nimi sin sin (eĉ plu novaj vortoj, even more new words)
Indeed, a cube is very unlike a pu, except for the odd crystal here and there. On the other hand, some of the typical Chinese manifestations of pu, while they appear to be natural -- the products of wind and water on stone -- are actually the result of a good deal of human intervention (I remember a...

Re: Clause-trophobia
In fact, word dropping is already in full flow in tp, especially DO dropping and that especially with reflexive DOs. But that all need a little essay somewhere, with some guidelines (beyond "context will tell" which sometimes doesn't work right -- I do occasionally and out of the blue want...

Re: Dilbert en tenpo suno pi kama sin pi jan Kolisu
Your choice, but the other is closer to the original (and so will get into the anthology, I expect). 'o suno li lon' is a grammatical sentence of tp because it is derived from the accepted grammar, which was built upon existing usage. So, to put it another way, it is a grammatical sentence because i...

Both more cheering than "uncarved block" though neither seems likely.
