Ok, some tweaks needed. Not "cooperative", "admiring" (the whole thing is "said Prof. McG, sounding half-exasperated, half-admiring"). Perhaps "ona li pilin pona tawa jan Tanpeto tan ni: ona li wile sama pali."? Although that may have exactly the same meaning....
