Re: Toki. sitelen ni li sitelen e mi tawa sina

taso kili Kiwi li jelo ala.

Yes, 'toki kepeken toki Losi' - the thing after 'e' is the actual message, not the language it is spoken in. Nice catch.

Re: mi namako

As noted, it is established by being used by basically competent people - norma loquendi: grammar is decided by usage. I know this is a created language, but after a certain point (just where and when is open to some negotiation) it becomes a language simpliciter and then the creation and the creato...

Re: Proposed reconstructed history of proto-toki-pona.

A much funnier story than the the sanctuary form global disaster one. But I would have expected more (some) Polynesian to survive.
Don't put too much faith in the Swadesh list (or in anything by Swadesh, for that matter).
The thought of Berkeley missionaries is the capstone.

Pali. tan mi wile e mani la mi pali lon tomo pi jan lawa. Mi pali mute. Mi pali kepeken ilo pi nanpa mute pi sona mute. Mi sitelen e toki pi ilo nanpa mute. No subordinate clauses in tp of the "because I want..." sort. You need a separate sentence: ' mi wile e mani. tan ni la ..." As...

Re: Converting content words to function words

This discussion presupposes that 'kin' (I take it this is still the subject) is a clitic. But it is not obvious that 'kin' is phonologically bound, though it may be. It is more importantly not obvious that 'kin' has only grammatical, not lexical meaning (the point at issue, in fact). Nor is it clear...

Re: Fortuna by Corvus Corax, medivial latin lyrics

Well, let's see. The Medievals had Fortune as abstract but personal -- and female (yes, this is conflicted), so 'jan sewi' is not inappropriate. The point of fortune songs is always that Fortune changes (see Orff's "Fortune, like the moon"), so, emphasizing the good is just wishful thinkin...

What does "it" refer to? If you mean the bit at the end, it is a command to talk well. If you mean "how to import these things," I mean the little characters, which you use here, that float on the right of the page and look like they could be moved into text, but refuse to move b...

"Do we have a chicken and egg here?" Damn betcha! ""Admittedly, 'kin' seem more restricted than most, so far, but nothing is carved in stone here, and usage still has some force in determining rules." well, if they not carve in stone, why they don't write on a web, how exact...

Re: mi namako

"sina wile sona e ni tan seme?" Or even tawa seme (for what purpose as well as from what reason). " janKipo wrote:"Established" means "used several times by people who use tp well generally" Also used for "likewise" and similarly." I agree that meani...
