help with a short poetry translation

Hi, I’d like to translate a short piece of Edda poetry to use as an example in my humble proposal for Elder Futhark runic transliteration for Toki Pona. Here’s one I liked from the Grimnismol : Hot art thou, fire! | too fierce by far; Get ye now gone, ye flames! The mantle is burnt, | though I bear ...

Re: nasin sitelen ali pi toki pona

Oh, sorry. I’m using Unicode runes; you should see them as long as you have an Unicode font covering that alphabet (some free fonts that do include Junicode and Code2000). Thurisaz is the rune for the /θ/ sound, as in English “think”… or, well, “Thor” (it’s actually the source of the old English let...

Re: nasin sitelen ali pi toki pona

Yes, but one has to choose one of Elder Futhark, Medieval etc., then choose which runes the (assumed) historical usage matches Toki Pona phonemes most closely, and propose that as a system for TP. I know, that hardly counts as “work”, but it’s a teensy bit of work nonetheless. Here’s a simple propos...

Re: bashō’s “old pond”

In my humble opinion people focus too much on the 5-7-5 structure of haiku. I don’t think it translate well outside of Japanese (where it counts morae, not syllables). What I find important is the season-word, the imagistic “here and now” worldview, the care with prosody and melody… all of which are...

bashō’s “old pond”

telo awen a
akesi li kama sewi li kama anpa
kalama telo.

Does that looks right? (I wonder of there’s a way to shorten the middle sentence…)

I just started with toki pona yesterday, but man ni li toki musi =)

Re: The artist is at work! Letter names

Hi, I’m completely new to toki pona :) but wouldn’t it be more in spirit of the language to name the letters for words starting with that sound, like most (all?) alphabets did originally? For example, “Gamma” is just the Greek adaptation of Phoenician Gimel, “camel”, a word which started with that l...
