TP poetry styles
This topic is the result of a comment in the kama sona forum. What are the extant forms of TP poetry? It's hard to tell what is good, what is bad, and what isn't poetry without some guidelines. I did read that article on average line length. I was looking last night for that site with TP haiku, but ...

Re: legal use of compound sentence ? [first try at bad poetr
It pretty much has to be a matter of stresses to the line, without regard to the number of intervening unstressed syllables, so the Three Blind Mice sort of thing. Jan Kipo knows I disagree with him here (he is, of course, free to dislike my poetry). It is possible to write other styles of poetry i...

Re: musi pi nanpa luka pi jan Katulu
On some thread or other, someone suggested that all 'wile' are about someone's wants and the trick is to find out whose, then use that for subject and original subject's action for object. I don't know how practical this is, but it ties in with the principle of holding the responsible responsible t...

toki musi sin tu pi toki pona.
A loose translation of the beginning of the Iliad. The meter is 9-7, based on Japanese epic meter (7-5), adjusted for the slightly longer average phrase in TP. Comments on the efficacy of the meter as well as translation issues are welcome, but I am more interested in working on meter. jan sewi musi...

Re: reduplication for emphasis is wrong.
Except for numbers, both precise (wan, tu) and approximate (mute, ali, lili), I treat the repetition of a kulupu nimi X X as use of the same nimi with different meanings (although often the repetition is pleonastic). 'ike ike' 'a complex evil' or 'an evil complication', but not 'an evil evil'. Other...

Re: musi luka pi jan musi pi jan Katulu
Just so. I was talking about what you presented in tp. I assumed there was exhortation in the original, so 'o mi tu li lon. o mi tu li olin.' This may be weaker than you want, since it can mean just "Let's", but then the tp imperative is not very imperious -- it can be used for pleas, beg...

Re: musi luka pi jan musi pi jan Katulu
Sorry I haven't been commenting on your translations-- your beyond making beginner's mistakes where I usually like to jump in and add my two cents. (That's a good thing!) 1. There is no such thing as a 1st person imperative (some languages have 3rd person imperatives). I've read grammars of dozens ...

Re: musi luka tu pi jan Katulu
Ah so. The end of the littles, not the little ends. I probably would have used pini pi jan lili, but then maybe not. I didn't know that about asafoetida, which I know only as a particularly vile smelling herb that gives a pleasant taste to things. It is a delicacy, but here it is also a reference t...

Re: musi luka tu pi jan Katulu
nanpa li mute pi ko... might be enough and skip the redundancy. or are you trying to use 'mute' as "more than" throughout here? I don't know my plants, but how is the plant with the little peak asafoetida (what does the phrase mean, anyhow). 'plant of the little end' – referring to its use...
