Re: Verb vs. Predicate

jan Ne o, toki! Before pu, Sonja had recognized that the line between verb and adjective in toki pona is a little blurred: (http://forums.tokipona.org/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=37) That may be so. But what does it matter now? Pje's lessons were more specific. Her use of the terms adjective and verb i...

Re: Verb vs. Predicate

Her use of the terms adjective and verb in the book was probably to make it so that it's accessible to everyone, even people who haven't studied a lot of grammar. Very likely. Those who do not deal with grammar will not be able to learn a foreign language well. Anyone who talks about grammar in for...

Her use of the terms adjective and verb in the book was probably to make it so that it's accessible to everyone, even people who haven't studied a lot of grammar. jan Ne o, toki! I think most people who deal with languages know about the difference between adjective and verb. jan lape = sleep-perso...

Re: Verb vs. Predicate

Good observation. jan TepanNetaPelin o, toki! as I wrote, Toki Pona is different from the Chinese here. Using an adjective as a predicate has a different meaning than using a verb as a predicate. NOUN + li + ADJECTIVE ijo li pona. Something is good. NOUN + li + VERB ijo li pona. Something is fixing.

Re: Verb vs. Predicate

jan Ne o, toki! Many thanks for your comparison to Mandarin Chinese. But Toki Pona is different here. Sonja has defined the use of nouns adjectives as predicate. See page 20 of her book "Toki Pona - The Language of Good": NOUN + li + ADJECTIVE ijo li pona. Something is good. "pona&quo...

Other no-copula languages - Russian

toki! Russian is also a no-copula language like Toki Pona. However, one can recognize the word type by the endings of the words. For example I'm working. - Я работаю. I'm worker. - Я рабочий. The word root (рабо) is the same. But the ends of the words are different. The word end -таю identifies a ve...

Re: About the "Toki Pona: The Simple Way Of Life" book

jan "KNTRO" o, toki! Sonja published a draft of Toki Pona in 2001. Bryant Knight (a.k.a. "Pije") published a course in 2003. Around 2004 I translated this course into German and published it, together with the English version, in printed form. In the following years I completed m...
