Re: "When" in Toki Pona

As always, it depends on context. If yiu are asking a question that wants a time specificiation, then ‘tenpo seme?’ is just ritgh, either before or after the specification: “When will you come?” ‘tenpo seme la sina kama?’ or ‘sina kama lon tenpo seme?’. But if it is to cooordinate two events, “when”...

Re: Some missing words

Well, ‘e’ only occurs before a direct object, so only in a predicate, where direct objects are, and thus not in a noun phrase, which cannot contain a predicate (since no li’, for example). I don’t think it is ever explicitly said, but it is implicit and implied throughout. Now, ‘pi’ does not only oc...

Re: Some missing words

Alternatives are in use for most of these
The proposals for age ,while well motivated, are ungrammatical. ‘e’ cannot occur in a ‘pi’ phrase.

Re: How would you say "to show"

Well, the first two give the wrong notion since the direct object in a causative construction is the subject of the caused action so this is”cause or allow a view”, which misses the point a bit. The third, two-sentence, solution is safe. The last involves a new idiom but looks like it should work.

Possibly true but it is still just a code.

Re: Jewish songs

Sorry, I took the ‘lon’s To be modifying ‘jan sewi mi’, a noun phrase, not the the vestigial verb phrase of which it was part. So it is my knowledge, not God, that is in earth and heaven?

Re: Jewish songs

Hava Nagila works nicely as a translation and as a song (I could scarcely keep from dancing). The only questions are 1) matters of punctuation, where it is not clear whether things are vocatives or subjects and the whole hortatory imperatives or ordinary imperatives. 2) the whole current confusion a...

Re: mani anpa li pona

“bottom money” seems odd, but I don’t know how to say “guaranteed minimum income” or some such thing, so this probably works; “base income”, say. ‘seme’ forces a question mark at the end of the sentence. I am not sure you are posing a question and answering it or just say you want to talk about the ...
