Re: ko lili pi kasi ike
Oh, I haven't noticed before. The old word-list by jan Sonja contained only meanings for 'kon' used as a noun and as a modifier: kon n air, wind, smell, soul mod air-like, ethereal, gaseous But the new definition has it all: air, breath, life force, spirit. And the example: jo e kon - to breathe...

Re: nasin pona
My two pennies' worth: This system is fraught already: if every depositor wants his money back, the bank can't pay it. Despite of the fact that the today's bank system in practice can be treated as it is "fraught", this doesn't result from the essential characteristics of the bank as such....

Re: ko lili pi kasi ike
I would say:
kasi li pana e ko lili. = Plants are emitting pollen.
'mi ken ala tawa e kon.' for breathe is not very clear.
'telo li telo e kon.' in fact is not "the rain cleans the air", but "the rain wets the air".
telo li telo e kon. tan ni la ko lili li anpa tawa ma. ?

Re: X la: what is X?
jan Kipo o! Some months ago I wrote a text "Indicating the context or la in practice" (in Polish), trying to sum up what I learned then about usage of 'la'. Interesingly, it starts from the same point (conditional as an example), and describes almost the same cases: When? Past, present, fu...

Re: Need help/confirmation on a phrase
True. In a living language, used by some speakers, the meaning of the word is given not by a dictionary (ken la lipu sama ni li lon ala), but by the usage. When someone is leaving he says "goodbye". This is the meaning. A meaning of a word is a kind of employment of it. For it is what we l...

Re: About the usage of "kin"
I mean: 'Verily...' has basically the same structure as 'kin la...' (in front of the whole sentence).

Verily, verily, I say unto you...janKipo wrote:So, to satisfy persnickety perfessers, we stick to the rules: 'kin' goes after the word stressed for adding to, confirming, or correcting previous statements -- and in front if the whole sentence is of that sort.

Re: About the usage of "kin"
In the example, 'kin' is used to emphasize the entire sentence: mi tawa = I went (mi tawa) + kin = mi tawa , kin = (I went) + too It's not an error, but in this case one is rather expected to say: mi kin tawa = I+too went. As jan Mato said, 'kin' for the entire sentence is more clear for some of us ...
