Re: How do you say/translate this word/phrase into Toki Pona?

Hi all, I'm starting this thread for asking how would you say a word or a sentence in Toki Pona. I could already save some, but some other words and phrases are getting tricky in my head. For instance, a couple of hours ago, I was thinking about how one would say a known person in Toki Pona. I firs...

Re: "Going" questions

A beginner here trying to get my head around some things. 1) Going multiple places. I know there’s no e after tawa, so does it work like this? ona li tawa esun tawa tomo mi. toki, jan Sali o! You can say: ona li tawa esun li tawa tomo mi. And you can also say (why not?): ona li tawa esun, tawa tomo...

Re: About the "Toki Pona: The Simple Way Of Life" book

Hello all, Has anyone read a book titled Toki Pona: The Simple Way Of Life ? It's somehow based on the Toki Pona: The Language Of Good book, but there's a lot of strange things that don't appear in the official book. For instance, a couple of words, like these ones: monsuta = monster namako = spice...

Re: Verb vs. Predicate

Mandarin Chinese is another example of a language that uses zero copula. And it is similar to toki pona in that it doesn’t mark whether a word is an adjective or verb etc. For example: 他很好 tā hěn hǎo “He very good” (He is good) Because the word is not marked as an adjective or a verb, most linguist...

Re: Genesis 1 translation

God is not mentioned by Sonja but I like this simplification. Copy-pasting from the official dictionary: sewi NOUN area above, highest part, something elevated ADJECTIVE awe-inspiring, divine, sacred, supernatural So, "sewi" = "divine" nominalized is the "the divine". ...

Re: Genesis 1 translation

toki, jan Wiko o! Your Toki Pona is very good. open la jan sewi li pali e sewi e telo. I would try to refer to God or the Divine as "sewi" (as Sonja does) in order to be as neutral as possible. Yet your text is deliberately monotheistic, so "jan sewi" seems to be in order. It wou...
