nimi mi li Tamenik ala Tamenik?

Hello again, Tokiponans! I recently began learning Toki Pona, and I have a question about whether I translated my name correctly. My name is Dominick and it is pronounced in English as /'dɒm.ə.nɪk/. As far as the consonants go, I think I am fine. The only consonant from my name that Toki Pona lacks ...

Re: mi pana e "toki!" suli tawa sina mute.

kama pona kin! Welcome. jan Mato o, pona! I think I'm the only one that thinks so, but reduplicated adjectives require a pi and the repeated word modifies the previous adjective. We don't have any evidence about what reduplication means, but pi phrases are well understood. Reduplication is not prod...

Re: nimi mi li Tamenik ala Tamenik?

If you want to preserve the final k sound, you need to pick an extra vowel. The "conculture" suggested form is gender neutral, which goes along with failing to make distinctions of all sorts, so jan Tomini I know that Toki Pona does not have a specified gender, but if I am going to save t...

Re: mi pana e "toki!" suli tawa sina mute.

'lawa nimi' is not too bad for grammar: "rules for word". We need some established tp terminology for linguistics since so much of our talk is about tp and it would be nice to do it in tp. Mistakenly thinking lawa nimi was widespread, I had gotten the term from here . Now I guess this blo...

Re: Toki pona lessons in spanish twitter style

Hube estudiado español por seis años en la escuela secondaria. I had studied Spanish for six years in middle and high school. Permitánme traducir cualquier frases que Google no podía. Allow me to translate whichever phrases Google could not. #tokipona; "ala" negates the previous word ; mi ...

Re: nimi mi li Tamenik ala Tamenik?

Well, either way, "Tamenik" violates Toki Pona spelling standards, so how do I go about changing my username? I only need to know for future reference, while I struggle for now with what I want to call myself. I'm one of the 3 administrators here. It looks like I have the ability to chang...

convention for lipu toki pi pana (letters)

Is there a convention for writing a letter in toki pona? If not, I am curious as to what such convention would be. My guess is it would vary somewhat from English's convention, due to the grammatical differences between it and toki pona. We begin with Dear Bobby, ; however, I see a simple jan Papi o...

Re: convention for lipu toki pi pana (letters)

jan Soso o lukin! So and So, lookie here, I sent you a letter! «o lukin!» li tawa pona e mi. «o toki!» kin li pona. So, I've started using "lon pona" as a kind of more respectful and nice conterpart to "tawa pona". I think it could work well for letters as well. ni li pona e mi....
