Re: sin pi toki nanpa tan jan Sonja
Hi everyone. I'm new to toki pona, but I think it's great, and I'm loving it more and more as time passes. At first, I was puzzled by the lack of numeracy in toki pona. I wondered how I would live without large numbers. I thought that even primitive people needed to say their equivalent of "I'l...

Re: sin pi toki nanpa tan jan Sonja
lon! mi lon ma Kanata :-) I wasn't aware that Sonja has spoken before about money. I searched on google, but didn't find anything. Do you know where I should look? Regarding ages and dates, has anyone suggested using something like the traditional Chinese calendar? The traditional Chinese calendar d...

This is just a guess, but how about "sike sitelen" (picture disc)?
sike di sitelen tawa? (disc of moving pictures?)

Re: sin pi toki nanpa tan jan Sonja
Oops, I was trying to say "two days and five weeks from the start of October", but maybe that doesn't work with the order of grouping in tp. And I don't know why I said "di" instead of "pi". I think my brain was getting confused by my knowledge of French.

Chinese calendar? (tenpo sike pi jan Sonko)
A discussion in another thread made me think about how one would use the traditional Chinese calendar in Toki Pona. (The advantage of the traditional Chinese calendar is that the years aren't numbered; rather, they're assigned a name containing one of five elements and one of 12 animals, resulting i...

Re: A range of possibilities
the second point is that for some words there are no kanji. these are la li o e pi . Actually, although Japanese doesn't use kanji (Chinese characters) for its grammatical particles, Chinese does, so you could find kanji characters to represent those structural particles. I would suggest: la -- 地 (...

Re: A range of possibilities
Also, words like "lipu" and "palisa" could be represented quite well by Chinese classifier words. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Chinese_classifiers I like the idea that a Chinese speaker could look at Toki Pona written in Chinese characters and be able to guess at the mean...

Re: sin pi toki nanpa tan jan Sonja
You know what? It's probably just easier to say that my birthday was one day before November. If dates were given that way, we'd never have to use a number greater than 15. For example, don't say Christmas is the 25th day of December; say Christmas is 7 days before January. (tenpo Kolisumasu li tenp...

Re: nimi sin sin (eĉ plu novaj vortoj, even more new words)
I find the word "namako" interesting. I wonder if it could be used to indicate excess. For example, "You drink too much" instead of just "You drink much".
"Sina moku namako e telo nasa!"
"Sina moku namako e telo nasa!"
