Re: Seasons

Given my bias, I would, of course, shift to 'waso pimeja/ la lon palisa moli' but getting both autumn and evening in the last five syllables is too much.

Re: Three haiku by Taneda Santoka

True, but the tradition is pretty clearly in favor of a splash, though maybe not as much a one as “kersplash” suggests. I do like keeping the options open (my tp version uses ‘kalama telo’, of course). “plop”, which is about right, would be hard in tp.

Re: Three haiku by Taneda Santoka

Kalama telco is the last line of the 17syllable version of the Basho frog pond poem , here the onomatopoetic "kersplash" (more a stone than a frog). I forget the Japanese. I'm not sure I understood your question. The fifty cases or so in the corpus suggest tp is fairly adaptable to the str...

Re: Three haiku by Taneda Santoka

Nice, but I admit to a preference for tp versions that keep at least the syllable pattern. There is a pile of these in the corpus, as well as a few scattered cases. Most of those in the corpus -- which is currently unsearchable except by looking at each item -- actually come from the musi section of...

Re: Seasons

Nice!
The address for the old list is in the pinned intro to tomo lipu on Facebook and probably in the Hub as well.

Re: Seasons

‘tenpo seli’ for “summer” and ‘tenpo lete’ for “winter” are solidly established idioms. There are nothing so firm for ”spring” and “fall”, or even a small set of suggestions. Patterns like ‘tenpo pi kama lete’ fit with the fixed items, but there are also ‘tenpo pi kama lipu/kule/laso” for spring. An...

Re: When is a predicate is only formed by an adjective?

Though Lope won’t see this, I may as well drop my small change. “Clearly” is easy; there many cases where all the probabilities of the context lead to that assignment. But “necessarily’ is different. No matter how likely it is that ‘jan li pona’ has ‘pona’ as an adjective as the predicate, it is alw...

Re: Wan - 'Alone'?

‘wan’ is a typical tp paradox, since it means “one”, “alone” and also “married”. I generally see ‘wan taso’. “all alone” to be on the safe side.
