Re: nasin toki pi toki pona

Well, I am not sure that changing from spatial to temporal definitions is an improvement (I find the temporal more confusing somehow), as long as they are fixed names, their content is not to significant. I do find the description around 'li' confusing, as part of my usual problem of just how to rea...

Re: I'm updating my Toki Pona lessons and I'm looking for good text examples

Well, there are several notions of what tp is for -- all of them rooted in Sonja's uses of it and talk about it. I'm not sure about Lope's own ideas, except that he focuses on preventing anything he considers a complexity. That doesn't work for a lot of people in the community, including some that l...

Re: meli lili pi len loje

For most of your suggestions, while I agree they are safer, I think that context is enough to get us through the ambiguity. The quotes on "2017" are standard for nontpized names. The two standard transitive from nouns is another case where context is needed. one that the applicative use is...

Always nice to find something I agree with Lope about (actually, most things, but when we disagree, he gets very Prussian about them). You don't need nor want commas with 'la, li, e, en, anu' and so on. They do help a bit with 'la's, if you want some left groupings, but those are rare. Lope requires...

Re: meli lili pi len loje

Commas before final PPs have been recommended and used (though sparingly) for several years to break up very common ambiguities at that point. Lope's textbook actually required them at one point (he has done a revision and I don't know how much of that is left). They should be an option, not a rule....

Re: meli lili pi len loje

Nice.
In the code versions, do make compact forms for 'mama mama' and ''meli lili pi len loje' and the other expressions that turn up in almost every line.

Re: meli lili pi len loje

I theoretically like the commas before final PP, but in practice they break my reading rhythm. Most other commas are even more annoying. But, as you say, it is hard pleasing everyone and Lope and I just disagree about a lot of things. I do take a more lenient view on a lot of things, however. lon in...

Re: o jan ali, toki! mi jan SeliKiwen.

Any particular reason you need to direct jan SeliKiwen to become good? Probably just want the phatic interjection 'kama pona' "Welcome!"

Re: meli lili pi len loje

Well, Lope is being overly fussy (even by my standards) here: 'mama mama' can mean "parent's parent" as well as "parental parent". His longer version more or less avoids an ambiguity but creates others, so is o great improvement. I do like the fact that he pretty much insists on ...
