Re: lon anpa pi suno mun

Don't see the point of 'anpa pi'; '(lon) suno mun' seems enough. I miss 'jan pona mi Peko o' Don't need second 'tawa mi', but it is ok to have it -- or use 'pana' instead of 'tawa mi' as verb. 'moli' instead of 'ke pana ala e suno' 'mi jo ala e seli' 'tawa olin sewi' (joke coming up) No sure how <<P...

Re: Whistled Toki Pona

Thanks for that brief and informative description. tp, even though it has very few words in a large word space, has a large number of very similar words, made even more so by this reduction in the number of consonants (the vowels are less a problem, since tp is almost a three-vowel system anyhow). S...

Re: tan e nanpa pi toki pona

Basically, I agree. But I do think that, if we are going to break with tp to the extent of using place notation, we might as well (better) use a full set of digits as well and even some accompanying paraphernalia. My suggestion is around here somewhere, along with countless others. In your heading, ...

Re: Musical system - toki pi kalama musi or tkpm

I usually leave codes alone; I don't use them and rather dislike it when other use them (without clear text) in discussion space. But this one seems particularly ill-advised, since it can be used by so few people, either sending or receiving (me doubly so). I am sure that it is ingenious, but it doe...

Re: Left and Right

Chinese compasses point south, so about one quarter of the world is messed up by that choice. But more practically, "North" and"South" are not up for discussion. 'lete' and 'seli' have been in the language since the beginning and are enshrined in countless texts and textbooks and...

Re: la phrases

Very nice. But it is still necessary, for all sorts of reasons, to figure out what is going on and to give students (and even not so studious) guidelines so that they can do what they want in their own mode. Lope is too negative, Loki is too positive (anything go so long as we understand -- and even...

Re: Is "poka" a spatial noun only or can it be a preposition too?

Talking to a brick wall again, it is hard to totally disagree with Lope. 'poka x' should not be a preposition to replace 'lon poka {x}', thus setting a precedent for doing a similar shift for all the other position words. But this does not speak to whether it might be a preposition with another (rem...

Re: la phrases

I recommend giving up. Lope's position is fairly bulletproof, since he simply says that exceptions to his rule are simply wrong ("slang") or has another (often horribly implausible but internally consistent) interpretation of what is going on. So far as I can tell, everything he allows is ...
