Re: Genesis 1 translation

My previous remarks having disappeared, let me try again. Sorry, Tepan, but using prepositional phrases to modify nouns is as old as can be and it has been adapted to the ‘pi’ rule for at least half a decade, if not longer. That pu never uses the construction and so never needs to apply the rule (wh...

Re: Compound Word Dictionary suggestion?

Just an added note. ‘a’ and ‘o’ are quite distinct. ‘a’ is merely an exclamation, without an specific content outside context (and not much in it without some further specification). It is broadcast and undirected. ‘o’ is (in the relevant usage) directed to a specific audience and meant to attract t...

Re: Compound Word Dictionary suggestion?

Three comments. 1. As a matter of experience, making up idioms out of context is not very useful. What looks good in theory usually doesn’t work so well in the rush of context and something more apt will turn up in the moment of need. However, the discussions in these howjasay sessions sometimes cla...

Re: To the Reader — Baudelaire

Whatever deficit there are seem to be mainly in the details of mood “mild remorse” “limp repenting” “go gaily”. and the like. Mild remorse would seem to involve feeling bad about what you have done -- though not very bad: ‘ike lili pilin pi pali ike’. or some such. ‘wawa ala’ is “weak”, but “limp” s...

Re: To the Reader — Baudelaire

Smoother. I still haven’t checked the original, so here is what I get from this “Craziness and disaster and evil and clutching Are in my spirit and make my body. I feed my tale of doing differently. It is good. I act like willful men. They feed bugs. My evil remains. My desire to act differently is ...

Re: To the Reader — Baudelaire

Grammatically, not much to complain about, except need a period at the end of the third line (I think). That also ends with a ‘pi’ followed by only one word, so needs either to drop the ‘pi’ or add a word. As a translation, I am less clear (why I don’t do poetry). I get (being literal as usual, with...

I like ‘supa’ for itself, but it would have kept my mind from wandering the way it did.

It is, but describing a Rubix cube even with it is not easy.

Re: Genesis 1 translation

Nice and nicely compact after all the details.
2:1 ‘ali pi lon sewi en ma’
still think ‘lape’ is excessive, but that is fussiness.
