Re: jan Ense en jan Kete

1. "in the earth interior of a tree" = 'lon insa ma pi kasi suli'. Not sure what it means, but that is what the tp says. The "two-word rule" includes 'pi' and what follows it as the second word(s). 2. Adding 'mute' is just automatic "plural", but in a lot of cases (coup...

Re: kalama musi pi tenpo pimeja pi jan tawa

Very nice. I've started fretting about those temporal 'la' phrases and so, when I see 'tempo lili la' I worry about whether it means "in a little while, soon" or "for a little while" and then what would the other one be. I have a question mark by it, hoping to get back there some...

Re: jan Ense en jan Kete

I've made a few changes for grammar and a couple for sense (there are still a lot of problems with 'tempo... la' and I am trying for some consistency.). The remaining question is about "show x to y" which, I know, the old word list gives as 'lukin e x tawa y', but which doesn't make any se...

Re: kalama musi pi tenpo pimeja pi jan tawa

My response seems to have vanished, so let me repeat what I can remember. 1. Yes, that is exactly the point I was making about 'sina kin'. I would only add that the 'li' rule means it has to be 'sina kin li lape', whatever that does to metre and the like. 2. I'd love a "Hansel and Gretel"....

Re: Left and Right

Overtime these often suggested moves have been brought up they run into left-handedness and rightheartedness and are rejected. The questionable relation between pilin and ilo pi tawa pi telo loje is also a problem. The 'open/pini' writing scheme has none of these problems. It does not, alas, provide...

Re: kalama musi pi tenpo pimeja pi jan tawa

Yes, 'ma pi kasi suli' is pretty standard for "forest", leaving 'ma kasi' for lawns and meadows and fields. It doesn't seem too long after a few rounds of fairly tales, where it turns up all the time. I wondered if 'o awen' shouldn't be 'o awen kin'. 'o awen taso' seems a little strong. II...

Re: kalama musi pi tenpo pimeja pi jan tawa

Doesn't ring a bell, though my German wasn't overly poetic, except for monthly Singfesten. Sleep is on the top of all the hills You can barely feel the air in the tops of the trees. The birds don't sing in the meadow. Wait! Soon you will be asleep, too. I guess the only lullaby I know is about being...

Re: Left and Right

It's not too clear what "port" means in terms of a ship: the place going to ('poka tawa') seems likely but doesn't suggest why that is on one side rather than the other, and so on. As for "starboard", that is from "steerboard", the side where the steering oar was before...

Re: toki!

Citing Piriha~ for anything is never convincing, especially for (notoriously unprovable) negative claims. The thing to take away from the discussion of the quoted and unquoted names is that names are not the things they name ("the map is not the territory", etc.). But it also carries over ...
