Re: Correct my translation

'pi len ala' is a bit literal. Indeed it is. Couldn't come up with an alternative and thought the "without clothes" = "without embellishments" would be a good metaphor. What would be a good alternative? 'pi selo ala'? Just dropping it altogether? No suggestions. tp doesn't yet h...

Re: mi sona ala

pu has been less unifying than might have been hoped. It is useful to note that jan Sonja says explicitly that it is (just) how she uses tp. Since she started the language, her usage deserves respect. But she was absent from the community for large parts of a decade and has not acquainted herself w...

Re: 'ale' and 'ali'

I could get all philisophical and say how defining nothing makes it into something, and thereby it would be covered by 'ali' but then we'd have to talk about getting rid of 'ala'. :)

But, yeah, I think the nothing you are describing would still be covered by 'ali'.

Re: o

'o' really isn't too hard. Anything in front of the 'o' in a sentence is what or who you are addressing. Anything after an o is a command or request. So, 'jan Tomini o.' would mean 'Hey Tomini, I'm talking to you'. or something like that. 'o pini!' would mean 'Stop!' or 'o toki tawa mi.' would mean ...

Re: 'ale' and 'ali'

mi pilin e ni: nimi 'ali' li pona. taso mi wile weka e nimi 'ale'. I think I get where you are going with the infinity thing, but if I do get where your coming from then that IS covered by ali. I'm with jan Kipo. I'd rather just do away with 'ale' altogether. The only reason that it is still taught ...

Re: lipu mute pi jan lili

I did some more digging for the usage of 'tawa' as 'for', and while every toki pona dictionary says it can be used for 'for', it's never really described as to which 'for' it can be. My usage may have been improper. Maybe a more experienced speaker can shed some light? I was using it as a prepositio...
