Re: Hierarchy of en and anu

Well, whatever that logic is. It does not obviously apply to 'pi'. As for 'poka' being a noun here, I can't think of any reason to think that -- except, perhaps, the notion that whatever comes after a 'pi' must be a noun, countless cases to the contrary notwithstanding.

Re: nasin toki pi toki pona

While I think "no recursion" is too restrictive a definition of simplicity (and, after more than 50years with linguists and Sapir-Whorf, and the resulting doubts about claims about Pirahã,  being unconvinced it is even possible), there is lot to be said for Lope-and-Tepan's tea-party  posi...

Re: Tokiponido

Not that you will notice, but my aim is to help tp to grow. If the rules are too rigorously enforced it ceases to be a living language and dies. Especially if the rules are simply imposed from above rather than arising from the actual users. Of course, it doesn't help if the imposers don't follow th...

Re: Tokiponido

Ah, too bad. "Add Foe" means you don't interact with a different point of view, a loss, as Liberals since forever have noted. On the other hand, wild insults don't do much either, so maybe there is some gain in your going away.

Re: Tokiponido

glad to know my comments are funny, though that is not my goal. My idea is to stimulate discussion about perceived problems or unclarities with the hope of making tp a better channel of communication without making it more complex. Of course, if it is already perfect or is immutable even if imperfec...

Re: nasin toki pi toki pona

well, Lope starts fine, but goes off with "the first word after 'pi' is a noun", which your example shows to be incorrect: it can equally well be an adjective, verb, adverb or preposition. 'pi' just marks the beginning of a modifier that is more that one word long. but he ends right.

Re: nasin toki pi toki pona

Well, strictly is just before the predicate not at it's beginning (it's that kind of fussiness that gives grammarians a bad name). And, of course, the is no ( visible) 'li' with 'mi' and 'sina'. I suppose these are kulupu nimi lili because sentences are suli. So, conditionals are 'pi nimi 'la''.

Re: nasin toki pi toki pona

Li. True but need first to say connects subject and predicate and also that it disappears only when the two words are all alone as subject. Pi. True but you need to indicate that it only for modifiers, and tha it only arises when a pair or more of words form a unit of modification.  That is, 'toki p...
