Re: New idea for <wan> "one"

@jan Kute: I don't usually think "one" is doing anything all that special but I noticed that it happens in Danish too. Of course, the mechanism is dropping the noun that's supposed to be reduplicated - hence just 'one' from "one [whatever was just mentioned]." I think "ijo s...

New idea for <wan> "one"

I was reading a paper the other day and I remembered that tp has a corresponding word for "one" so this could work. Sina wile e wan? Sina wile ala wile e wan? Do you want one (or not)? jan moli jan. tenpo pimeja pini la mi kama sona ni. mi lukin e wan. 'mute' can probably do the same, but ...

Re: toki pona's pronoun system

tl;dr we could do what ASL does. 'Jan Marija li lon ma Mewika. "Jan Josepi li lon ma Kanata. Ken la 'jan li tawa lon tomo pi "jan. Maria[here—gesture somewhere in front of you] lives in America. Giuseppe[here—gesture in a different spot] lives in Canada. Maybe she[gesture in the same spot ...

Re: toki "Damin" li sama lili e toki pona.

^^A bit more of a relex too though, yknow? If Basic English were relexed it would really be quite formidable if you calqued most of English's multiword verbs in, they're ridiculously productive...I've actually thought quite a lot about this. The idea of a ceremonial language is awesome, and the oppo...

Re: What kind of innovation(s) are permissible in tp?

I wanted to point out something unusual that didn't apply in the past; with the Internet we have the ability to modify old & new texts LIVE. This came to me because of the use of word filters. Basically to decrypt any text you would have to be current with the lingo in its current form. This mig...

Re: What kind of innovation(s) are permissible in tp?

I won't argue that Bislama is harder than TP, but what I will say is that TP has allowed me to tolerate informal language better, in natural English and in L2 and ESL speech. It gives you a core of very few words to attack a grammar and larger vocabulary. if you already know English you can try stic...

Re: What kind of innovation(s) are permissible in tp?

I also wanted to say, if people find toki pona too limited, they may just enjoy learning Bislama, which was a major inspiration for TP and is a living lingua franca with an active base of ~250,000 speakers. The only thing is it needs a bigger online base, but to its advantage I think many English sp...

Re: What kind of innovation(s) are permissible in tp?

I think a great way to manage innovation and rhetoric in TP would be to use the Kalusa engine. http://jimhenry.conlang.org/conlang/kalusa/index.html I think we would have to add additional parameters, such as an ambiguity acting and maybe an interest rating for each sentence, so that if any got belo...

Rhetoric in TP

I started this thread to give jan ante and jan kapiwe some space to do what he wants since we're not really talking the same thing. I don't really want to change things much, I'm conservative on this. If poeple want to conlang, I don't want to clutter things up. Continued from h ere. http://forums.t...

Re: Toki Pona Jan

Okay, I made a new thread so people can hammer out the details of the TP offshoot if they like. I am more concerned with pushing TP's limits so I made a new thread here. http://forums.tokipona.org/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2100 Thanks, kipo, that clears up a lot. I was thinking that ona could be used...
