'lon wan taso' doesn't mean 'at only one'. 'wan taso' is well established as a way of saying 'only' or 'alone' so 'lon wan taso' means 'only exists'.

Re: Left, right, numbers and "The Stuff of Thought"

In fact, “the sun rises” and “the sun sets” are. pretty universals, since they are apparent to sight in almost all environments. to us they are obvious, yes. from the point of view of a primitive culture, like I said, viewing the sun as something that was being reborn every day (beginning & end...

Re: Left, right, numbers and "The Stuff of Thought"

Bearing in mind that I'm new to this... Trying to think about this with as little cultural pollution as possible, it seems to me that East/West ought to explicitly reference 'suno'. 'open/pini suno' and 'sewi/anpa suno' equally make sense to me. Approaching north/south and left/right from the pseud...

Re: Left, right, numbers and "The Stuff of Thought"

As I said, I see the meaning of anpa/sewi, but I don't think most people would see using open/pini as a big deal. If you see tp as the kind of language a primitive culture would use (which I do. because in a lot of ways that's exactly what it resembles) they wouldn't necessarily have any concept of ...

Re: Left, right, numbers and "The Stuff of Thought"

I am familiar with lete/seli. I just meant some people could be confused by seeing sewi/anpa for east/west as opposed to north/south (even if they ARE already familiar with lete/seli). Every discussion I've seen about left/right, east/west the common suggestion has been ma+ for east/west & poka+...

Re: Left, right, numbers and "The Stuff of Thought"

this thread is the first I've ever heard of anpa/sewi being used for east/west. I usually see kama/open & pini. I assume the former is referring to the sun rising/setting, but I'm not aware of that being any kind standard. I think that would confuse some people. kama/open & pini are more obv...

Re: Left, right, numbers and "The Stuff of Thought"

Well, I think the tendency is to use ‘swi’ and ‘anpa’ rather that ‘open’ and ‘pini’ for East and West. They don’t require knowing about North and South or about Left and right. For Left and Right, I think we have settled on ‘pok open’ for “left” and ‘poka pini’ for “right” for essentially the reaso...

Re: Left, right, numbers and "The Stuff of Thought"

poka open could be 'East' & poka pini could be 'west'. 'poka open' for the side the sun rises in (open) & 'poka pini' for the side the sun sets in (pini). You could use 'ma' for that instead of poka. To use that you need to know north & west though. Maybe poka open should be left, & ...
